Even
though ‘The Special One’ has been telling friends that his move to
Manchester United is a done deal and reports in Spain and Portugal say
that Jose Mourinho has already agreed a pre-contract deal with the
management of Old Trafford and is only waiting for things to be made
official, fresh facts from the UK say that these are all far from the
truth.
According to The Sun UK on Saturday, Mourinho is yet to be announced
manager of Manchester United because the club’s board is ‘unsure about
making Jose Mourinho their next manager’.
The respected British tabloid, quoting Spanish football expert, Guillem
Balague, reports that contrary to widespread reports of deals and
pre-deals, Manchester United is actually yet to agree a deal for
Mourinho to become the new manager.
While it is true that the former Chelsea boss has been heavily linked
with the Old Trafford hotseat and is being seriously considered at the
club, Balague says that club chiefs are divided over whether to appoint
The Special One. On his part, Mourinho has been without a job since
December after receiving the chop from Roman Abramovich for a second
time and the Portuguese tactician is only waiting for the management to
make up its mind.
“No deal with Mourinho has been done. Will it be done? Who knows, but no
deal has been done. And there are enough people at Man Utd that don’t
want Mourinho.
“For Man Utd fans, there are more coaches than Mourinho. I know the
appeal of having Mourinho, but have a look at what Cocu has done with
PSV, what Allegri has done with Juventus, what Tuchel is doing with
Dortmund.
“They will realize there is more than one coach in this world,” Balague told Sky Sports.
The report confirmed that United is planning to sack Louis van Gaal this
summer after failing to see any improvements, and Mourinho looks set
for the gig after confirming he’ll be taking a new job in July but all
is not concluded yet.
